We'll take a short bike ride to a nearby destination off the Burke Gilman Trail for some recreation, playground time, and general fun. Typical destinations include Magnuson Park, Ravenna Park, Matthews Beach, and more. If the weather is wet and cold, we have some special destinations that are covered and protected from the elements so kids can stay as warm and dry as possible while getting plenty of exercise and fun.
· Days/Dates: Wednesdays April 1st – June 17th
· Time: We'll depart on bikes from Wunderkind at 1:30 and return between 4:30/5pm for pickup by 5:30pm. After school pickup provided for Bryant Elementary School students.
· Equipment: Bike with wheels at least 20” in diameter; hand brakes and bikes with gears are recommended but not required.
· Skill and Endurance Level: Riders need to be proficient on a 2-wheel bike; able to ride distances of 2 – 3 miles at a time; and comfortable/confident riding both uphill and downhill. As a test, riders need to be able to ride continuously uphill without stopping and walking from NE 50th St along the Cavalry Cemetery on 35th Ave NE until they reach NE 55thSt. This is a very common route we take to and from the Burke Gilman trail.
· Cost: $225/month. By registering, you’re committing to the full program through June 17th. No refunds or credits will be offered.
All programs operate out of our facility in the Ravenna/Bryant neighborhood of Northeast Seattle (http://wunderkindseattle.com) at 3318 NE 55th Street, Seattle 98105.
For elementary after-school biking programs, parents/guardians can drop bikes and gear off at Wunderkind between 8-10am on the day of the program. Students at Bryant Elementary are welcome to lock their bikes up at the school to then bring with them after-school at pick-up.
Unless communicated otherwise, biking programs return to Wunderkind between 4:30/5pm for pickup by 5:30pm.
We offer at-school bike pickup for Eckstein Middle School and Roosevelt High School students. These logistical details will be shared with participants upon registration.
